Back on Track

What is Back on Track?

Activate Learning is working with partner organisations to deliver a free project to help transform the lives of youngsters at risk of becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) or who have recently become NEET.

The project, Back on Track, is funded by the European Social Fund and the Big Lottery Fund. It will run until October 2019, focusing on helping young people aged 15-17 across Oxfordshire access the support they need to continue gaining skills and knowledge for their future careers.

The support on offer

Back on Track will focus on supporting participants develop their self-confidence and motivation to stay in education. It will also result on young people being more work ready and able to make more informed decisions about their future.

Support will be tailored to meet individual needs, but could include:
  • One to one mentoring and guidance across the county, providing in school and outreach information, advice and guidance for young people, parents and schools
  • Access to volunteering and work experience placements through our partners
  • A programme of summer activities, including vocational skills tasters and short qualification courses – for example, event stewarding or food hygiene courses
  • A one-week non-residential programme to build confidence and leadership skills
  • Peer mentoring and outdoors events, including team building days for schools
  • Additional short courses for young people who are already NEET, including English, Maths and work experience or volunteering opportunities.

It is expected that a minimum of 225 young people will be engaged throughout the project.
