BP brand experience for graphics students

BP’s Global Brand Experience Director, Chris Sedgwick, visited a group of graphic design students at Reading College to give them an overview of the organisations and his career in marketing.


Chris explained how he has progressed throughout his career, working for major companies in the food and retail sectors, and described how marketing can be a fulfilling career for creative people who are also analytical. Students were encouraged to ask questions throughout, which made for a collaborative session.

The students were keen to find out about BP as a company and were interested to hear that only 10% of their oil is used on transport oil fuels, as the vast majority of their business is in petrochemicals. Chris described the role of the marketing team at BP and their involvement in key tasks such as organising major global events.


The morning finished with the students working in groups and getting the opportunity to have a go on VR headsets to explore virtual reality experiences.


Jennifer Fogarty, Graphic Design Lecturer, said: “We really appreciate Chris coming in to meet with our students. It’s fantastic for our students gain an insight into a major, global company and to explore careers that would encourage their creativity, such as marketing. The presentation was really inspiring and we all had great fun using the virtual reality headsets.”
