Company visit supports student networking project

Reading College students working on a project with Cisco Systems were given a behind the scenes tour of their office at Green Park, including a guided tour of their ‘AS Lions Lab’ Advanced Services Data Centre.

The project challenges students to design a secure mobile banking branch and Cisco Systems were keen for the IT students to visit their office to provide them with a deeper insight into their company’s environment, core values and ethos. The students were given a tour of the offices and were also able to see a real life example of a network in the labs; bringing the students’ project to life. The project team at Cisco Systems also gave the students an opportunity to ask questions and receive guidance for their project by hosting a working session.

Greg Holloway, Client Lead at Cisco Systems, said: “Cisco’s involvement in the network curriculum and the working session at our Reading Green Park office was designed to provide the students with an insight into our innovation, technologies and working environment. As a global organisation with local presence in Reading, we feel strongly about education and nurturing local talent.  There are many enthusiastic individuals on this course and seeing the way they interact and want to learn is inspiring for everyone from Cisco, who have been fundamental in making this happen. We hope we will see many of the students applying for our apprentice programme and becoming part of our future success and Cisco family, everyone from Cisco who worked with the students expressed what a great group they were.”

The project is soon to come to a close and the students are currently preparing to present their final work to Cisco Systems’ project representatives.
