Two international students from Banbury and Bicester College are celebrating receiving unconditional offers from universities of their choice.
Lukasz Kowalski and Agata Kowalczyk, both aged 19, are set to enter higher education in the UK after receiving six unconditional offers between them.
The couple, who arrived in England from Poland around six months ago, have been preparing for their next step by studying the 10-week IELTS course at the college. The course prepares students for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), which is required for entry to UK universities. The programme is designed to develop students’ English language skills with a focus on reading, academic writing, speaking and listening.
Lukasz said: “We originally intended to stay in England for just a short time, but we liked the area and the people and so decided to apply for university here. British universities are well regarded across the world and employers value the knowledge and qualifications that you gain.
“The IELTS course is a good preparation for university as it builds skills in areas such as essay writing and shaping an argument. It has also helped to build my confidence in speaking English in other areas of life, such as when talking to colleagues at my part-time job. It helps you to settle in and feel part of the community.
“Applying for university is a big step. I took time over the personal statement on my UCAS form to ensure that it was right. To go onto UCAS Track and see that you have received unconditional offers makes you feel really good. It helps to know that you have something secured.”
Lukasz has so far received unconditional offers to study forensic and medical science and biomedical sciences at Bradford, and biomedical sciences at Coventry. Agata has received unconditional offers to study chemical engineering at Bradford and biomedical sciences at Coventry and Essex. Both have also received offers conditional on their scores in the IELTS exam.
The IELTS course has flexible start dates across the year. Find out more and apply online.
